Cremation or burial as a method of disposal of a dead body is a ritual entirely dependant on personal beliefs. Mostly it is carried out according to the wishes of the deceased or religious affiliations. In some emergency cases dead bodies are consigned to the sea and for Parsees , it is left on the 'Tower of Silence' for vultures to feast upon.
Whenever controversies and intrigues about the last rites of political leaders erupt , one must remember the Late Jyoti Basu . He donated his body for medical research and accordingly his body was handed over as a cadaver to the medical college . Love him or hate him , he deserves respect for this decision . #RandomThoughts
