Revolution

There are many people from the middle class and above who are afraid even at the mention of revolutions. Generally in public, they take the stance of pacifists who maintain that all violence is bad but has no qualms in defending, justifying and normalizing violence perpetrated by the state in the name of maintaining law and order or territorial integrity. To dissuade anybody, particularly the younger generation from even thinking about revolutions , the society also offers many inducements and distractions. In addition a narrative is also spread to equate revolution with terrorism.

Yes, there is no doubt about it, that a revolution is violent. But that should be the case in the first place because a revolution is cathartic. The very reason for a revolution to happen is to change and that includes the uprooting of the deeply entrenched sense of privileges, customs, beliefs and power equations in every part and section of the society.

But revolution and terrorism are not the same. Terrorism is the use of violence to intimidate people into submission. This can be used by anyone, by a group to protect their vested interests, even an individual and also the state itself. Revolution on the other hand is totally dependent on the participation of people. It inspires people to use violence as the last resort to overthrow the elites, establishment, and rulers.

But then those who understand have already done so. Those who don't want to or don't bother about it never will. #Randomthoughts
